How To Play Roulette

You could call Texas holdem poker a fad, but unlike a fad, it seems here for the long run. With so many new players coming into the game, we thought we would try to give you some ideas to improve your play. We hope the tips below help you with your play.

When it is your play do not just call the bet, make a nice raise if you are the first player entering the pot. Of course there can be exceptions, but this move allows you to take the lead in the hand. The pre flop raiser usually has the advantage after the flop.

Position is king in no limit holdem. So, play a lot of hands when you are in position. Especially when the blinds are low, or you have a big stack. You want to see flops when you have position on your opponents. Make a nice raise when there are a few people between you and the button, and that can earn you position for the rest of the hand.

Short table play is different, and you need to be good at it if you want to win tournaments. You need to learn an attacking style for short tables. Unless everyone is deep stacked, the play will be very aggressive, do not hang back, you need to play an attacking game.

When you are low on chips, you must alter your playing style. The best play with a short stack is normally to just go all-in. With the blinds big compared to your stack, try to get all in first and hope to steal the blinds, or double up.

A large stack of chips gives you lots of style options. This is a good time to play an open and aggressive style. Try not to be one of the fools who will lose his entire stack with top pair, top kicker with blinds at 10/20 and a stack of 3,000 chips.

If you are in the blinds with a good hand, raise big, and make people pay for you to play out of position. Taking strong control helps make up somewhat for the bad position. This strong raise will win you many pots even when you miss the flop.

How many chips you have will always be a factor in your choice of plays. You must also consider the stack size off any opponent you might face. Be wary of the smaller sized stacks going all in after you raise. Do you have the right hand to make a call, or can you fold.

It is very hard to go deep in a big field event (one with thousands of players) if you play too safe. If you can get a nice sized stack early, you stand a good chance to go far. The idea is that you will be better off having a ton of chips twice, out of say 15 times, rather than having a small stack 5 or 6 times out of fifteen. You will make more money from the two tournaments that you have a big stack, than from the 5 or 6 small stack runs.

Pay close attention to what the other players think of your style. If your image is of a loose player, you will have problems stealing pots. You can make more on your good hands with a loose image because people will not know that you are strong.

Virtually every one knows how to play Texas holdem these days. The skill required to win tournaments is another issue. You might be able to learn to play in a day, but it takes a lifetime to truly master.
