Memphis at L.A. Lakers When: 9:30 PM ET, Sunday, January 8, 2012 Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California

THE STORY: Marc Gasol is the younger and less publicized Gasol brother, but he and his Memphis Grizzlies teammates will try to end the Los Angeles Lakers’ five-game home winning streak Sunday night at Staples Center. The Grizzlies, 1-3 on the road, are coming off a 94-85 loss to Utah on Friday. The Grizzlies’ reserves didn’t score a point in the second half and were outscored 41-11 in the game. “Lack of focus,” Memphis guard Tony Allen said. “I just put it all on focus. Once they made that run, it kind of stunned us. We were up the whole game.” The Lakers earned a 97-90 victory over Golden State as Kobe Bryant scored 39. Bryant has averaged 32.7 points over his last seven home games against the Grizzlies. “We went through stretches where we couldn’t score, and so he carried us,” Brown said. “That’s what great ones do.”

TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, SportSouth (Grizzlies), FS West (Lakers)

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (3-4): The Grizzlies will be without star Zach Randolph for eight weeks after he tore an MCL in his right knee, meaning Rudy Gay will have to shoulder a bigger portion of the load. Gay has averaged 26.3 points in Memphis’ last three road games against the Lakers. “It doesn’t matter what happens, we’ve got to move on,” Marc Gasol said. “The truth is he’s (Randolph) not here and we’ve got to play and we’ve got to win. We’ll be okay if we share the ball.”

ABOUT THE LAKERS (5-4): Pau Gasol is 7-3 in matchups against his brother, Marc, but the two are close and worked out together during the preseason. They also don’t talk much about their games against each other. “We don’t talk about the game,” Gasol said. “We don’t talk during the game much. There’s not much worth talking about. We’re just focused on trying to compete and go at each other when we have the opportunity.” In the 10 matchups, Pau has a better scoring average (15.9 to 10.6) and leads in rebounds (10.2 to 9.5).

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. The Lakers are 4-1 in their last five home games against Memphis.

2. The Grizzlies are allowing a league-worst 6.71 blocks per game.

3. Memphis will honor NBA Hall of Famers George Gervin and Clyde Drexler on Jan. 16 during their 10th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration against Chicago.
