Rugby’s greatest rivals, the Springboks and the All Blacks are set for a titanic showdown in Bloemfontein.

Their lineout could be the weak point, with Brad Thorn not really a reliable source of ball, much will fall onto the shoulders of rookie Isaac Ross and Jerome Kaino. The Springboks are the premier lineout in World rugby, and poaching genius Victor Matfield will once again look to dominate this aspect of play.

In the loose forwards they present a strong ball carrying trio, but McCaw doesn’t seem to be that vital 1 step quicker than his opponents any more. Against Heinrich Brussouw he will have a tough battle trying to secure the All Blacks turnover possession.

This caused a loss of sensation in his right side and after a subsequent neck operation was told that his career would be over. Another player who suffered a rugby related injury is Tom Philip who tore his knee ligaments, which is an incredibly painful injury.

This will allow the loose trio a chance to get front foot ball and Pierre Spies and Juan Smith need to get over the advantage line to get the backs going. Against the British and Irish Lions, this didn’t happen and the Springboks couldn’t gain any real momentum.

After completing the proposal and presentation to the IOC, Mr Bernard Lapasset who has led the bid on behalf of the IOC as Chairman said “Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai showed that the so-called smaller sporting nations can compete with the biggest in the world. Countries like Kenya, Zimbabwe, Samoa, Tonga, and Uruguay proved they are capable of beating the best. Playing at an Olympic Games would offer these countries a real chance of medals and a further opportunity to be part of the global sporting family.”
